I hope somebody may be able to point me in the right direction with this.
We have 2 MGTFs in the family both with different problems.
First the TF160. This car handles diabolically wanders all the time.
It is fitted with the correct Goodyear GS-D2 tyres all round.
It has been to an MG specialist and had a 4 wheel alignment - not really any better.
Checked and reset by myself to settings from the internet - better but still not good.
I have castor camber guages etc.
Don't where to turn now!
Any body any ideas - the car is low mileage and recently passed a MOT where I had the chance to check the car myself while it was on the ramp. There is absolutely no suspension play.
Getting to point where perhaps getting it set up by somebody else would be a good idea.
Any recommendations in the Herts/Beds/Cambs area.
Second TF 135 on 16inch wheels - no handling problems.
Engine hesitates and or looses power randomly - no fixed pattern sometimes completely fine in a journey other times not.
It is momentary then clears. Ignition system replaced - plugs - coils and leads. These were taken from another car which was running perfectly until the cam belt broke! So are a known quantity.
This car has been to the MG specialist too and the ECU read and stepper motor reset. Ok for a short time then the problem is back.
It is almost like the rev limiter is cutting in but not at high revs.
Anybody any ideas - it will cost fortune to get looked at by the specialists as it is an intermittant fault.
Engine sensor perhaps? Which one?
TF135: As no other problems were reported by the ECU code reader, it's unlikely you have a sensor malfunction.
If the entire HT system has been replaced with known good items, you must look at air or fuel supply, so recommend you change both filters..
It really does sound like an HT problem though. See
hesitation
reference on here.
On the 135 it does sound like ht or fuel starvation. Check plugs too. Also try a throttle position reset. Could also be down to just needing a good service
TF160: Have been thinking more about your wandering MGTF.
My MGF wandered about until I replaced all the rubber bushes with polyurethane type. There's a lot of them!
Worn bushes will contribute to poor handling and might be why your car wanders on the road.
Any bushes that are breaking down ought to have been spotted by the MOT tester but I guess there's three conditions - breaking down, soggy but passable and new. Polyurethane bushes will outlast rubber every time, and retain new condition for years and years. Our sports cars are very twitchy about tyres, pressure and suspension setup/tracking - soggy bushes won't help!
Had same prob with my tf sometimes ok then not, intermittant faut took it to garage today, they replaced, dizzy cap, leads.plugs and rotor arm, what a diffrence, the rotor arm was burnt round the top, hope this helps
