Sticky Throttle 12 years 1 month ago #43157

I had never noticed this until last autumn when my I started teaching my daughter to drive and took her to a local airfield in the TF, she found it difficult to get the revs right - either to little or to much revs, I tried to replicate what she was doing and then discovered that the throttle pedal was a bit sticky and it was difficult to apply more revs slowly.

Now that the car is back on the road again, I have been more aware of it, partly due to a current problem I have with my right leg/foot so decided to investigate B)

I found so much slack in the throttle cable where it connects to the throttle flap on the engine air intake, it was a simple job to adjust out the slack and then out for a test drive, what a difference - the revs are now easy to control, wish I had done it months ago :yesnod:

When I saw the thread title, I was gathering causes in my mind, ...and you go and fix it yourself. ;) :broon:

I took a 59 plate TF for a test drive in Newcastle and what a dog.

The clutch pedal was hard to press and the throttle was even harder. You would pull up at a junction, press the throttle, press it a bit more, a bit more....then it would give and the revs would rise suddenly.

It also had a tear in the leather bolster, 3 different types of tyres and the rear view mirror missing. :nonod:

Feel free to add pics of anything at anytime. If a how to guide is replicated then I'll add it to the original as a variant. :)

I've got a new accelerator cable that needs fitting, if you wanna do a "How to"

If not it'll go into my mates garage and get replaced there :)

When my throttle went a bit sticky it proved to be a kink in the cable where it runs therough the cabin. The only interesting thing I have to say about it is I found it hard to oil before fitting so i used an old trick.
Here it is taped to the Flymo overnight with a bag of oil at the top

and in the morning
