You shouldn't actually oil the cables as they are PTFE lined and the oil will destroy the lining over time.

If you want to oil them then use PTFE based lubricant.

To be honest, if they are at the stage where they need oiling then it is best to replace as the PTFE will have worn off at some point.

Thank you for this Clive, i totally agree that a PTFE lubricant should only be used, but is not required because of the lining. The Old style Bowden cables without a lining could be oiled in this way, but to be quite honest if they are sticking i would replace them.

I think that PTFE ought to be a quiz question, what is it????

I didnt really expect anyone to answer this, there are no Quiz points for the answer, but thank you. It is actually one word as follows:-

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that finds numerous applications. The most well known brand name of PTFE is Teflon by DuPont Co.

I'm sad. I knew that too.

I also know what LASER and RADAR stand for without the aid of the internet. ;)

That's about the end of my skill set though. :pinch:

EDTA or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is a novel molecule for complexing metal ions. It is a polyprotic acid containing four carboxylic acid groups (acidic hydrogens are red) and two amine groups with lone pair electrons (green dots). The classic structural formula is given below. EDTA is synthesized on an industrial scale from ethylenediamine, formaldehyde, and a source of cyanide (HCN or NaCN).
