While I'm waiting for the bonnets to be churned out my mind has turned to a lightweight matching boot.
When I was down there delivering the bonnet for moulding he kindly gave me a present of a fibreglass bootlid to play with.
The things that I am going to do are:
Add another louvre for extra cooling and design the underside to take 2 small radiator fans that will expel air from the engine compartment if the ambient temp switch comes in. These don't have to be ffitted (lighter) but will give the option for better cooling if desired.
or add extra louvres to the left and right of the existing ones. Not sure what I think of this option, but it may introduce rain into areas that might not like it, such as the ECU area.
Also smoothing out the 3rd brake light recess and the key hole.
An extended bootlid spoiler will be added, extending the lip, like this
I am also thinking of a different type of high level brake light.
The standard one
is difficult to remove and replace without breaking it, and there are no aftermarket ones for clear or smoked options.
Not sure it looks OK without one and that would probably brake the law (see what I did there
)
So, I dabbled with a couple of ideas.
One is to slim the light down to a single row of LEDS behind a very thin reflector.
and the other is to just drill small holes and fit round, clear dark plastic plugs, behind which would be individual LEDS. You could even wire the outer smaller ones in to the indicators and use amber LEDs. Bear in mind that they will be almost invisible when the brake light is off, I just had to make them visible so you could see them.
Or, I could recut the recess and fit an aftermarket readymade unit like this one.

It has also been suggested to smooth ot the waist line. But I quite like it as it adds a bit of style and breaks the lines up a bit.
Before
and after
So, thats the options at the minute.
Anyone got any comments or suggestions?
