Hello all, just wanted to ask a simple question, especially to those who have had MGFs for awhile.
I have a 96 MGF,(a gift from the Mrs), which was had some engine work done before we baught it. (Cam belt went I believe!) Anyway, I have a major list of things I want to do to the car, but knowing what you guys know, where would be the best place to start.

My first thought is to make sure the engine is in good shape as there seems to be a little oil leaking underneath! As I live in Cradley Heath I'm thinking of taking the car to Wolvo to the MG Centre to have a look.

The other major thing is body mods - spoiler, splitter, bonnet etc but with limited stuff available Im not sure how to go about this!

Other things that Im thinking of are new wheels - not sure I want to go bigger yet but i want black rims as I think that would look better with the BRG color. The interier is in good shape if a bit faded so thats way down the list.

As I said earlier, all thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appriciated!

Start with a good service, covering all aspects of the car including suspension, brakes etc. Maybe even put it through an MOT, it might not need one yet but £40 for a complete checkover of the car is good value. Track down the oil leak and sort that.

Then I would start with handling and braking first, making sure everything is in order and doing the things you want.

Then you can think about engine tweaks and mods if you want

Next would be interior and exterior tweaks.

I also think a fibreglass bonnet would look great.

Wheel wise you are a bit restricted, but there are a few options. Easiest option is to go 11 spoke TF wheels and custom paint them like I did.

I would also check your steel underfloor pipes - if showing signs of rust, replace with stainless steel items, check the condition of your radiator and all the rubber cooling hoses.

I would also say stary with the Water works Alloy Rad, Ss coolant Pipes as a first then good service, followed by throttle body and aftermarket Air filter, good service then on to the Darkside of interior and exterior mods the list is endless. I have had 3 sets of wheels on Tiny in the last yearuntil i settled for the 11 spokes

One of the first things I would do would be to fit a low coolant alarm.

Maybe he means he wants it to float free.

If you are going to get new wheels I would suggest that you get bigger than 15" replacements, as at some time in the future you may want to uprade your brakes and the bigger ap-racing calipers need at least 16" wheels.

Just a thought...

You can go 17"s as well, but some have had problems with rubbing. They do look nice though.

Missed that ebay listing..would so have had those. Damn
So what work would be needed to be done if I go up to 17" alloys? Also will my MGF take any wheel that is for an MG?

A bargain. I might try 17s in the future, but more worried they will rub.

If you do get it MOTed remember that if it fails it will invalidate any exsisting MOT.
