While i had the centre console out to remove the tank, i found a spare connector behind the gear lever. does anyone know what it is for?

The purple and black are for the cigar lighter, these ones are yellow/white and green

Please excuse the dirt, I will attempt to clean it before i put the console back in

With those colours it will be associated with the seat belt/SRS or associated gubbins. It’s probably C0100 if it’s down there, it’s a bit lonely on its own & I guess your SRS system was working fine before the strip down.
My car is of a similar vintage, I don’t recall having an connector down in the bowels, I shall look tomorrow, if required. After that I’m away.

You are correct that is C0100 connector - seat belt warning switch. However it has nothing to do with SRS - electricaly. It just warns you if you did not fasten your seat belt, nothing else - but to be able to do so, your buckle needs to have that kind of switch.

I did some research last night, and it may be the seat belt warning light, which i believe was available on some exported models, and is also found on some uk models.

Interesting stuff, thanks for the supplementary information.
It can’t be “live” as that circuit is open, becoming active when the green is linked to white/yellow; is there a warning light or a “bong” noise, on cars with this facility?

Actualy Green wire is live, coming from fuse box under steering wheel. White/yellow wire goes to Multi Function Unit - red box bolted to the other side of fusebox uder steering wheel. That is one of the features of MFU which exist. From MFU it goes to instrument panel, where you have light indicator for seat belt not fasten.

I believe there is a light on the dashboard; annoyingly the photos on the link have all been removed by photobucket

I found this

Though there is an extra light required in the centre of the consol for the seat belt warning, the PCB is the same as the UK version (ie they are one and the same which I still cannot understand and MGR refused to help). On the PCB there is space for an extra couple of light fixtures but the tracks are all their to fit an additional light fixture. The most difficult bit of all this was attaching the light fixture (which I took from a PCB I purchased) which is attached by pins to the PCB so some careful soldering was required to attach the pins to the PCB.

 a “bong” noise

From my experience, not as a participant you understand, but as a spectator, but the noise a "bong" makes, is a sort of bubbling sound..........not the most useful warning sound as it might be a bit hard to hear over the normal sounds the car and other traffic might make, and of course the smoke may intoxicate the driver.........not that would do anything to discourage any of pot heads I've known.......Indeed it would be their very aim!

I knew full well when I wrote it that our dear & I’m glad to see, recovering, antipodean colleague, would find my grammatical plant & jump on it with unalloyed glee.
