Hi all,became the proud owner of a 97 vvc last month, but of a pup bodywork wise but seems good mechanically. My aim is to smarten it up and make it my own, with my diy skills though that's easier said than done! So far all I have done is taken out the seats for a good clean (made a 23p profit!) and fitted a tf boot lid...badly. Need to decide which brg I fancy too which is proving tricky! Sounds like you're already having fun with it! Pop some piccys up so we can seethe progress over time!

Tip woudl be to pop the carpet out completely and see how much rust is on the floor pan due to water ingress. It's always a good place to start with securing the cars future. You can whizz the rust off (as its usually just surface anyway) with an abrasive pad, treat it and then paint with stone chip. It will also tell you if you have the dreaded leaks as below:

Front air intake (as it's a Mk1 you'll want to upgrade to the later TF style intake snorkel to stop this)
Front seams in each bulkhead side (these can we sealed eaither inside, or better outside if you take the wings off - another good place to check for rust!)
Rear hood gaps either side by the door opening (there are adusters to pull the hood in or send it out a bit)
Rear petrol tank cover (this gets damp form water ingress into the rear footwell area and then it rusts bottom up (again an easy fix as per the floorpan)

Small update, managed to get the tf bootless wired in correctly, just needs soldering then I can try and sort out the 3rd brake light. After that, carpets out to check the floor for rust...which is scary. Anyway, before and after of the boot lid, lock is now attached and it does shut, just forgot to take another picture! I think the tf boot goes really well with the curvier f bumper hope the attachments work!
