Hi Everybody 12 years 5 months ago #33014

A hello from a very new member! Have recently purchased a 1996 mgf 1.8i vvc for the wife as she has wanted one for ages, but being very mechanically minded was aware of some of the mgf/tf pitfalls and reluctantly gave in. Found a fsh car with good mileage and a very recent hg and belt service so away we went. must admit love driving the car and would like to say a thank you to the various members who have posted how to's as these have been invaluable in solving numerous little niggles and explaining why the spanky new hard top i got wouldnt fit!

Thanks leigh,

First forum i have ever joined, seems very friendly! Will no doubt have some questions as the wife loves the car for her 80 mile commute but only gives me the keys when there is a problem. :yesnod:

Look forward to hopefully being as helpful as a lot of the other members on here

Ta Mike

Oh, Oh, consider to adding a few upgrades as precaution to keep the lady smiling.

1. check the fuse setup in the front bonnet and replace the 15 amp fuse for the front fan with not less then 20amp. (items was changed officially at later MGF)

2. add a coolant lever sensor with buzzer.

Happy motoring.

It's vital for all MGF built before YD511059 :omg:
We found this issue back in 2004. Been on a trip in the Alps with 30 cars and my MGF coolant boiled when I parked her at the first pass, stop at Penser Joch.
Thought it's the dreaded head gasket, but after some investigation with help of Tony ( http://www.apttony.co.uk/index_MGF.html ) we found the front fan sticky and the Fuse F2 had blown.
Made the fan rotation again by hand and replaced fuse with a 20Amp type after comparing my fuse panel cover with another friends TF parking beside mine.

and

scroll down to F2
:yesnod:
btw. as another precaution against a blown fuse F2 I put a buzzer parallel to the fuse
In case my fan gets stuck again and the even the 20Amp blows then the buzzer will make noise.
