The air flow in an MG is closely related to the early Land Rover where you increase the flow by opening the front flaps & the air escapes through the gaps, however as the vehicle ages the exit routes become less efficient due to the build up of moss. On my F excess air escapes through the gaps just in front of the hood hinge; the canvas can flap at certain speeds making a rather endearing farting noise.
