The rack is not that bad to remove, and can be swapped over in a couple or three hours. If I remember the how to on here helped me out when I did mine. If i remember correctly, the replacement rack did not really seem any different, it was when I replaced the universal joint at the bottom of the steering column that connects to the rack that eliminated the slight play in my steering.
If you do take the rack out, I think you have to drop the rear mounts of the front subframe to give you enough room to get the rack out or at least on the nearside.
