  • Many thanks for the quick response, we will have a look at this tomorrow. My son isn't 100% sure if the wipers are on or off when this happens. The car has been used very little over the past few years, and when we picked it up the passenger side door speaker was not working. I have MGF Trophy, and have all sorts of bits lying around, a speaker being one. So popped the door card off, and removed the offending speaker to find corrosion on the terminals. So sprayed with electrical contact cleaner, problem solved. So I may disconnect the battery and clean all the connections to the BCU (Pektron Magic Box), and see if that improves matters.

  • Grumpygit created a new forum post in MGF/TF Pitstop
Hi, I have a very interesting problem and not sure where to start. My son had a lovely TF which found some black ice, and lost an argument with a roadside railing, so ended up being no more. We have now purchased a replacement, which is a 2005 with 49K on the clock. However, it is nowhere near as good as the one he had previously. It may have a HG failure which is being addressed, it has some bodywork issues which are being addressed, a P0170 code (possibly related to HG failure, or blowing exhaust) being addressed, and has a very interesting electrical fault.

Sometimes when he is using the car in the rain, the alternator light flashes once, and the drivers window opens on it's own. This is intermittent, and may not happen, and then today happened twice in a 300 yard movement of the car. Obviously this window is being activated, though not sure from where. I am assuming that water is shorting something out somewhere, but where I have no idea.

Has anybody seen this before, or is this a new one?

Any help/pointers will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Nigel

  • Fortunately the garage that I use has two guys that are very familiar with the MGF/TF's. The garage manager had a TF, and did a fair bit of work to it, and the father of the lad that does the tracking has an MGF. So I am quite confident it get's set correctly, and haven't encountered any issues so far. It is these guys that have alerted me to the issues with my tracking adjusters.Obviously whenever I touch anything that relates to steering or suspension, it goes straight up to them for a tracking check. I think they get fed up with me, as I am one of those that is straight for a tracking check if I hit any pothole that I can feel through the steering.

  • Hello All, I am going to jump on this thread as I am a new member, and also in the Southampton area though not a newbie to MG's. My first MG was a badge engineered Metro Turbo back in the 80's, my next an MG Express Van (only 317 made, based on the Rover 25, so ZR Van really) in 2003. I got my first MGF in 2005, and added a Trophy to that in 2012. The MGF went in 2016, victim to Metal moth though not bad, and I didn't know a decent welder back then though do now. My Trophy got written off by my middle son on 2019, but replaced a month later with an identical model in need of some TLC. So at present my toy is a 2001 MGF Trophy in yellow with I think 87,000 on the clock, I have done 13,000 in it since I have had it. It currently has a Toyo Sports Exhaust. Pipercross Carbon fibre fully enclosed induction kit, and a K maps remap. I have a Sony head unit mated with Vibe front speakers, and pioneers behind my head.My youngest son has also been bitten by the bug, his first car is an MG TF Spark 135 in metallic red. That is a 2004 model, with 66,000 on the clock, he has already put 6,000 on it as he uses it daily, and loves it.I do most jobs myself, though not the Cam belts and leave that to the professionals, everything else I have done myself, including a few months back the dreaded wishbones, or whatever they are called at the front, on both my Trophy and the sons TF. I also replaced the steering rack on my F, as the tracking adjusters had completely seized, as have the rears which will need doing this year, but a fairly easy job.So anybody want any pointers, give me a shout. Cheers,Nigel
