What's the most exceptional / rare / noteworthy car you ever owned?

Back in Germany I had a Reliant Scimitar SS1 - well known in the UK, in Germany Reliant is an absolutely unknown brand and the car was a real headturner.

Some years ago I sold my Rolls Royce Silver Shadow - my neighbours here in rural Eire thought I'm rich... In fact it's complete insanity to have such a car nowadays.

But my absolute favourite was something quite unspectacular (on the first look), an Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint Veloce Trofeo.
Only 200 units had been sold of the 'trofeo' limited edition, at the time I bought it at least 190 where rusted away... So it was a real rarity!
It died when a tyre burst on the Autobahn and I hit the only bridge pier far and wide.
as ever,
Rob

Well I surpose it was my Lotus cortina which I got new from the factory as I worked there at the time BUT what a car, as I said it was new and the hand book said change the oil every 6 months NO CHANCE it did 100-125 mls per pint of oil The oil was just pumped up to the cyl head and then the people who designed it let graverty take control so the oil went every where

I suppose my rare car was the MGB GT V8 which I had in 1987. Glacier White with a navy cloth interior and chrome bumpers. It was also rare because it had overdrive on 3rd and top gear. Only early V8's had that. It was such a relaxing car to drive with so much low down grunt that you could leave it in top gear nearly all the time.
I only had it for a year, selling it for the price at which I bought it, to fund a house purchase.
I often look around the small ads and wonder if it's still on the road and should I buy another one? Happy days. :woohoo:

The most exceptional car I ever owned was a 1978 Morris marina 1.3hl.

Resplendent in two tone metallic blue over silver with brown velour interior.

It'd do nearly 95mph on a good day but was like trying to control a rowing boat at anything over 50mph

It handled like a puppy on a lead.

I tried, and succeeded on one occasion to select 1st and reverse at the same time :hgf:

Used oil like it was a two stroke and on a quiet day you could almost hear it rusting away!

It was my first car so shall always have a special place in my heart!!

I nearly forgot about the Trabant P601 that I painted in pink - with a brush...
Nothing special in Germany but maybe quite unusual in other countries.
as ever,

I think the exceptional cars are ones that taught you something, be that a skill, or sparked an interest that led you to other vehicles along the way. :pop: :pop:

I had a J reg mini Cooper. Did not know until I started tinkering that it was a John Cooper special works. Thought it was fast it kicked about 95bhp and more when I put a MG Metro turbo on it. Was amazing I learnt a lot about cars.

Unfortunately this project car was my daily driver and spent more time getting fixed than driven so had to go.

Replaced by 1.2 corsa sxi in typical vauxhall red (that goes pink in the sun)...

Hi everyone  long time no write!

Been hard to get the iPad off Andy, it's like stuck to him like glue..... :nonod:

Anyway, back to the topic.

My fave car was my 1979 blue 3 litre capri ghia auto :woo2:
I loved that car. I converted it to a manual.
Stripped engine down n rebuilt her under my car porch.
She had a tickford body kit n huge (at the time) 13" pepperpot alloys with 205's on front n 225's on back.
Looked meaty back then ;)
She purred like a kitten & I was so proud to own her & was always racing.
If I could get another one today I would but not so cheap anymore.

That's my car that changed my life, got me into mechanics, loved that car :drive:
