Low Coolant Alarm

Getting there, Once the snow cleared i did the first proper deep clean so looking much smarter now with a good coat of wax leaving it all nice and beady, new head unit & rear camera are in, new yellow leather gaitors are in, clearcoat is currently drying on some yellow interior trim in the living room, new tail lights are on with full LEDs, white interior LEDs done and i'm currently figuring out a direction for the wheels, might be going down the ultralight route instead of powder coating the existing ones... amusingly/horrifyingly depending on perspective the front tyres are date coded 2010, so needless to say they're going in the bin.
Admittedly this might all seem a bit "low budget Max Power magazine" but it's worth remembering i was somewhere around 18-21 when i first wanted a TF so it's definitely bringing that side of me out.

I would be the last person to advise against a low coolant sensor from our renown bassist, but do ensure your car requires one. If you feel under the header tank & you find a cable & connector, you already have a factory fitted unit.
If you disconnect the plug (depress the clip & hope for the best), the next bit is a “I can’t remember which way to test situation” but it’s either going to indicate when open circuit, or by shorting the connections the warning will show.
This will prove the system, you might need someone to check the dashboard lights whilst you fiddle.
Can anyone help with the open/short circuit conundrum, or maybe “Out Kid” could fill us in, once verified.

Somebody mentioned that if you have the hazard warning light on the instrument cluster (rather than just the indicator symbols) then you don't have the coolant alarm (as that's where they put the coolant warning light) so suspect that's the case, i'll have a grope around under the tank though when i get a moment to double check.

On OEM low coolant alarm you need to make short circuit from black to green/black wire in order to trigger the dash light.

Having now fitted Bruce's LCA kit I can confirm it's a really great package, seems like there's very little to go wrong and it's incredibly easy to fit thanks to well written instructions with useful photos to boot.
I know absolutely nothing about working on cars and am just figuring things out as I need to with the help of the fine people on this forum but thanks to those instructions It only took me around 90 minutes and that includes the fact that I discovered having XPower hoops installed makes getting the engine cover off a much bigger pain in the backside, this meant I was able to use the extra time I'd allocated to the task to instead fit my newly painted spoiler and even had time to swap out the chrome lighter socket for a usb charger (rather than a plug in adapter) also removing the chrome ashtray for a black one. All in all a very productive day. 
If you don't have a coolant alarm Bruce's kit is definitely the way to go, get it done and enjoy peace of mind.

Getting the engine cover off any F or TF with a rear speaker bar in place can be quite a struggle to reach 3 of the bolts but it must be very much more tricky to have to work around roll hoops. Did you have to remove them ?

There are a number of designs for roll bars & its a reasonable rule of thumb to say ''The easier they are to fit, in the first place & the easier the engine cover is to remove with them in place, afterwards'', the less effective they would be if pressed into action. To be honest the best that can be said is they look pretty, your greatest friend in worst case is the windscreen surround.
Can I recommend you do not check my statement.

Notanumber: I did have to remove them, and as they are (I believe) the only structurally tested and approved set of hoops for the car they also have some hefty brackets which cannot be removed (without a lot more work) which you sort of have to wriggle the cover underneath, it's not easy and I'm pretty sure my cover is slightly bent from it being done over the years but you'd have no chance with the hoops themselves still attached as they have a solid bar which goes right across the cover.
I can't speak for every other set of hoops but it's very clear these are a very tough piece of kit compared to the more cosmetic ones and I certainly would trust them to increase my chances should the worst occur.

Ta22gt: I was going to take some photos today having finished the chrome delete, but I ran out of time as a shake down cruise disconnected one of the cables from the low coolant alarm causing me to lose the reversing lights and camera so I had to fix that. 
The shake down also highlighted that my fuel gauge is a bit lazy, I filled the car up with some lovely V-Power, and the needle only rose to half a tank initially before suddenly jumping up to full, I'm sure that'll never come back to bite me
