the hand brake works fine providing that ..
1. both handbrake mechanism's on each side of the caliper are operating and free to move.
2.the procedure for setting up the caliper itself is carried out correctly ,there seems to be a lot of controversy in this area.
if the disks and pads are to be replaced then it is paramount that the handbrake mechanism is released first by the nut adjustor so that the handbrake is loose .
The caliper must be wound in with the appropriate wind back tool then the pads fitted ( forgrt the bit about aligning the pad to the caliper cut out)
Then pump the footbrake so that the caliper piston takes up the gap.( do not touch the handbrake)
Once the caliper /pad change is complete and the foot brake is firm then adjust the handbrake adjuster to suit your preference ,not too tight it needs room to adjust itself.
