This a picture of the boot of our Classic Mini and is showing the GB badge . We are taking our TF To France soon and I rather fancy having this style of badge rather than the large oval sticker type . I have all the other stuff that you are legally required to carry so , my question is would the Gendarmarie be bothered with this type of thing or would I be better getting a small sticker to go over the end of the number plates ?
To save hassle I suppose common sense says go with the large oval but I just wondered what you all thought .

Im not sure what the legal aspects are, but have a feeling the rule will be that if its not period appropriate then it wont be allowed.

Possibly you might get by if number plate displays GB status. I think there is a "driving abroad" section on the .gov website that may help.

Personally I would prefer the oval badge, but thats only because it would cover a paint scuff Ive not round to fixing ;)

Yes , thanks for that . It's just me and blingy bits . I didn't know if anyone on here had tested the water with the GB badge like the one on our Mini . There is no point in me trying to wind up the boys in blue over there as they will pull you over just for the hell of it .
I might just go for the sticker for the end of the number plate .
Cheers.

I would think (but dont phone me for bail if you end up in frog prison!) That if number plate was compliant, then old style GB badge too would not matter... just like additional mirrors on a scooter!

Number plate sticker will be perfect. Dont forget the other compulsory items; breathalyser kit, spare bulbs, viz vests etc.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Well John & Sue , annex 3, number 3 rules out having the sticker with GB and Euro simbol on the number plate .
:nonod: It would appear that the only way to go would be the oval sticker which I don't like , even though it will only be on for 2 wks . Ho hum .

Cheers , John

I have been using a small oval magnetic blue euro with white GB plate for years with no problems.

Home to black Alfa Romeo 159 3.2 V6 Q4 ,green MGF VVC and red MG Maestro T16.

MG - the friendly marque.

The best thing to do is look up the “driving in france guide lines” written by the RAC.

Refering to the GB sticker, the feature states;

A GB sticker (or ‘euro’ registration plates featuring the GB initials)

The topic from John was written about 10 years ago, and i am sure that legislation has changed somewhat.

You can buy driving abroad kits from the RAC for about £25.00, and this supplies everything that you will need for your journey. The GB registration stickers can be purchased on ebay for about a £1.00
