Hi, a number of bolts in the chassis strengthening plate under the centre of the car [removed by PO to replace the pipes] are either seized or the captive nut has let go. Please can anyone advise on repair procedure?
Many thanks
Richard
I had about a dozen bolts shear off when I was sorting the TF out, four of them on that reinforcing tray.
I simply drilled them out and ran a tap down them. I think they are 6mmx1 if I remember.
Fortunately the threaded bosses welded on the other side of the floor are quite big and if all else fails you can drill them out to the next metric size up which is what I had to do for a few of the bolts.
I would run a tape through every thread you come across then use stainless flanged bolts with a white waterproof grease.
I don't think you can use Riv-Nuts because they are intended for sheet steel and the welded boss can't be removed without a lot of hassle and also they are not really intended for high loading use.
