Brakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7 years 10 months ago #169917

Hello its been a while since posting but have been problem free ish for a bit

The car has stood for about 4 weeks give or take, with holidays and this and that haven't used her much.#

Jumped in today to go for a spin and breaks seized solid ??

went about freeing them off all spinning fine when jacked up go for spin locked up solid by the end of the road
so gets home slowly
do same again same thing happens

on further inspection when brake peddle pressed break lights staying on and brakes too
if I lift peddle with me foot underneath breaks off

Any ideas master cylinder or is the peddle just stiff from lack of use ie lubrication ??

any help would be most appreciated

If the pedal was just sticking slightly I would be surprised if that would cause the brakes to bind so much have you inspected the master cylinder for damage they can be bad for rusting on the backside. Does the pedal feel smooth in its operation? Does the car have ABS?
Thanks

car has ABS peddle smooth can be depressed several times without sticking but when it does its full on with break lights on too but if foot is placed under peddle and pulled up brakes and lights off master looks old an a bit scabby but have not given it a good look over yet

Check the brake linkage across the bulkhead as the pedal is on the right but the servo and master cylinder is on the left, linkage could be sticking somewhere.

Give the pivots in the linkage a spray with WD40 or the like, then some spray grease.

The master cylinder rod has to come all the way back to the end of it's travel or the one way valve won't release the pressure.

worked like a treat pulled back the bulk head cover and their was lots of crud under it got MRS S to press break peddle and sprayed lots of WD40 over all moving linkages.
Brakes feel much sharper and now turn off when depressed Sorted ( for now ) at least

THANK YOU EVERYONE :woohoo:

:broon: great glad to here it's all working. Might be worth spraying some white grease/PTFE spray or some silicone grease on the linkage's as WD40 will evaporate in time.
Thanks
