I think that's the point Tommy is making Rob. Clutch kits for 1.6 TFs seem to be upwards of £90-100

Strange! :-?

I think the price difference is down to number of kits sold. The 1.8 is a lot more common than the 1.6

Hold fire - DO NOT BUY a generic clutch listed for a 1.6 K series, it will not fit a MG TF 1.6, you need 1 for a 1.8 TF.

Why you may ask?

The 1.6 TF uses a PG1 gearbox and is the only MGR to do so, all other 1.6's use IP5 or R65 boxes.
This is because it was easier to modify the gearsets etc. than modify the gear change to suit the other box.

Home to black Alfa Romeo 159 3.2 V6 Q4 ,green MGF VVC and red MG Maestro T16.

MG - the friendly marque.

So do I understand right, all F/TF use the same clutch kit?

I knew I'd researched this recently. Here's what I found:-

Ok.The URF000170 kit is for the MGZR 1.6 with the R65 gearbox.

The I.6 F and TF has the PG1 gearbox and requires the URF0000160 Clutch kit. :yesnod:

The 1.8 uses the URF000122 clutch kit.

AFAIK the 1.6 uses a different clutch kit than the 1.8, BUT it is also a different kit from the other 1.6 MGs like the MGZR etc. Hence the price!

To check which kit is which, check the number of splines.
The 1.8 MGF/TF has 24
The MGZR 1.6 has 18.
The MGF/TF 1.6 has 24 because it's the same gearbox as the 1.8 :yesnod:

The MGF/TF 1.8 clutch (215mm) is bigger than the MGF/TF1.6 clutch(200mm)

Thanks for all replies,
Took some digging but yes seems 1.6 tf as stated above use the different gearbox ie 24 splines 200 diameter.
Got to blame Mrs Tommy for this one as it's her car but then it has done 97000 now and a bit high all though her last car had 180000 on it on origanal clutch so may be previous owner's fault.
Any way next job on list after my came change's on Audi 2.5 tdi that i am not looking forward to as no room to work unless you have hands the size of a small child,
Thanks again for all replies
Tommy.
