UPDATE!!!!!!! IT'S NOT OVER JUST YET!!!!! :tapfoot:

H/G can't b dun 2day :(

Russell came nice n early, took head off & sum1 b4 I owned it had changed head to a later model. Can't tell by lookin at it, well, 2 b honest, we didn't even know there were different heads made.

Anyway, head removed is warped n can't b used..... :(

So Russell couldn't do job cus he'd brought parts for '98 Mgf. Completely our fault, we ad no idea n also it was fitted with new uprated H/G set. :(

I'm gutted gotta wait nuther wk but hey ho it'll b worth the wait.

I am confused now :-? what is different about the head?

I have a TF head off a 1.6 in the garage and I didn't notice any difference to be honest so this has got me wondering what I need to be aware of :( this idea was to have this TF head flowed and ported once I can afford it.

Apparently it's to do with the cam tensioner.

Previous owner has had hgf which probably damaged the head so a replacement was sourced which, according to Russell is a later (mk2?) head that has facility for an auto belt tensioner which is fitted to ours but should've been a manual one.

Maybe the garage didn't know the difference and altered the cambelt to suit.

Alls not lost though as Russell is doing his best to sort it out.

Was really impressed with the speed he went about things!!

Really professional :broon:

Hell I am even more confused now as I understood it the only difference is a tapped hole and those using an auto tensioner the belt width is different. People who tune these engines and are going to be using higher rev limits retro fit the manual tensioner by drilling and tapping a boss for the manual locking bolt.

I didn't noticed which Steve used when he did "Blue's" head gasket but being early 97 is "Should be" an manual tensionser I gather.

I must say that I am surprised that someone like Russel didn't have both types of belt and tensioner with him as after all the amount of F's that have had the heads replaced is probably more than those left with their original heads still fitted. This cannot be an uncommon finding surely??

I've no idea if it's common

I didn't really spk much after being told car won't b dun & have to wait another WK

Couldn't believe how upset I was....I've really become attached to my little mgf even tho I've only managed to drive it for bout 5 mins. :hgf:

Am I the only one on here blubbering over "a car"?.... It's more than a car to me :-?
