Anti-freeze 9 years 4 months ago #153654

Hi

How can I tell which type of anti-freeze is in my 2000 year MGF, it is fitted with a black collar around the expansion tank neck which suggests it is not the oat type, but this could have been changed.

If the cooling system is flushed, is the oat type suitable even if it was not in originally ?

Thanks for any help
Tony

Hi, OAT tends to be orange/pink, but that's not 100%.

As long as you flush it well with clean water you can put OAT in a car that used to have older type fluid. It's far better to go OAT in an alloy engine.

I'd flush and fill with OAT.

Home to black Alfa Romeo 159 3.2 V6 Q4 ,green MGF VVC and red MG Maestro T16.

MG - the friendly marque.

Evans waterless coolant is a lot more expensive and needs the system completely flushed with their cleaner first cost is around £130
