I've a 1997 MGF vvc which I've owned since new. Quite few years ago I replaced the soft top with a glass window version which unbeknown to me at the time was not the correct roof for my model. I was for the model immediately following. My motor trimmer was able to fit it but not without quite a deal of grief and frankly its always been a bit of a mongrel to close. I recently noticed that the rear glass screen rubber is split on the lower pax side corner. This together with the fact that the roof material seems to be showing its age (disappointing as its rarely up and exposed to sunlight), has led me to decide to change the roof My last roof was bought on one of my trips to MG Live @ Silverstone but am not going this year. Am wondering what the collective wisdom of this group is regarding where one should go for a top quality roof. The supplier must be willing to ship to Australia.

I guess you had the early hood with the seams running along the vehicle.

The 2 manufactures I know of are BAS who are a general hood manufacturer and MGFmania who, by the name, obviously specialise in MGs, I would speak to them first.

I've been very happy with the glass window I bought from MGF Mania. The material was a perfect match for my Mk2 hood. Peter does complete hood replacements including the Mk1 - while I don't own one of these, you may want to take a look. He was very helpful about shipping to the Highlands of Scotland which is apparently as far from parts of Englandshire as Australia.

Sounds like you have a failing BAS Hood? MGFMania hoods do NOT have a plastic surround, the glass is flush bonded like ALL modern cabriolets
