Hi Members

I am looking for expert knowledge. Can someone explain how the standard steel back box is internally constructed i.e. internal pipes, chambers, sound proofing materials? Can it be internal altered to improve sound and reduce back pressure?

I appreciate one can purchase a purpose made good sounding s/steel unit but I am looking at a temporary measure as my existing box looks sound and I should be able to weld any access holes made! :help:

Central splitting chamber and silencing chamber either side with sound deadening material out to the tail pipes.

I've see and heard a standard exhaust that was opened up and the interior simplified. Sounded pretty good tbh!.

Hi David
Mank thanks for your replies.

So that I have a full understanding of the internal set up could you please let me have your further advice having regard to the following photo :

What are each of the pipes A to D?
Does perforated pipe C pass through all three chamber?
Why is pipe B ballooned out?
Has the sound deadening material been removed and from which chambers?

Robert, honestly I haven't a clue. I borrowed the photos from a thread posted by Adam-MGTF quite a while ago. I heard the modified exhaust and it sounded pretty good.
