TF engine cover sound proofing 10 years 3 months ago #137728

2003 TF
Only just opened the engine access cover and I was surprised that the rear shelf carpet is very thin compared to the carpet on an F.
Also no soundproofing unlike the pad on an F.
Should it have a felt pad?
I'm never sure if it's missing certain items or it's just the cost cutting differences from an F to a TF.

Any thoughts or comments please.

Yes, My 03 has the soundproofing pad.

They can be got on e bay for not a lot of money, and they certainly make a lot of difference.

Thought I knew the cut price elements of the TF, but it could always have been left off by some garage technician

They are a PITA to remove and replace so I would bet that a mechanic or owner didn't bother putting it back. It could also have got wet and been tossed.
I believe that Rimmers has some new ones on clearance along with some fuel tank soundproofing pads.

Our 04 plate 135 TF still has this.

My bet is yours got wet / fell apart at some point and was discarded.

I have heard of someone covering with dynamat instead in this area but with limited results...they went and bought a proper soundproofing instead after a short while.

Thanks for the comments.
I had seen the pads at Rimmers as I used the parts lists for reference so I have now ordered a nice new one.

Dynamat and Dynaliner. Great results and modern materials. That being said, i still have the factory pad there as well.
Its quite a snug fit!

I think you should buy several sausage dogs and train them that their bed is on top of the engine cover :)

That's lateral thinking.
I never thought of that!
