Hi everyone,

It looks like my head gasket might be on its way out, and I don't think I am going to be able to justify getting it done from a financial perspective :(

So, what do you all think it would be worth putting up for to sell?

Rough details:

Red 97 F
Tatty wheels
Approx 63000 miles
11 months MOT
Not sure on tax, but at least 6 months
X power stainless exhaust
Recent flexi pipe
Rear spoiler
Side scoops
Front splitter
Red half leather interior
Small split in rear screen, but have a spare to fit
Plasma dials
Mike satur pedals
New arb poly bushes and drop links
Spare new front calipers and second hand rear calipers (was going to paint and fit)
Wind deflector - poly carbonate one, still in unopened box
Speaker t bar fitted

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Lee

I'd probably say in its current 'HGF maybe' state you might get £400-£500ish if your lucky. Worst case £300. If it was cured with some devils flem (http://www.steelseal.co.uk/) you could polish up on fleabay it off for a higher amount 'sold as seen'

I would advise against that course of action.

Breaking for parts would get you more money anyway.

Yeah David is right. My £300 F got at least £500+ of money out of parts + no further hassle was given out to an unsuspecting buyer.

Cured = fixed, repaired, mended, aint broke. All for the paltry sum of 20 quid. What is it with everyones obsession of rubbishing a product they have in all honesty never used.

That's such a shame, isn't it something you can tackle yourself ?

Hi guys, thanks for all of the replies.

I would rather sell it as suspected HGF from an ethical point of view, but may try some steel seal anyways.......
Breaking for spares - done this with a few cars now, but it is very time consuming and space dependant, so probably not viable for me this time with work taking up too much of my time as it is.
As for tackling it myself.... I did the last head gasket replacement myself, as I have on many cars, but it isn't entirely out of the question. Again though, I am looking at the time aspect, which I don't have a great deal of right now :(

I will have a think on it. As it happens, I drove it 30 miles home after it was lashing steam out of the reservoir cap, and it didn't lose a drop, didn't go over 1/2 way on the temp gauge. Could be a dodgy cap maybe?

I will have to have a closer look at it when I get some time in a week or so and report back.

Cheers again guys, you're all ace :)

Pics might help Lee. I put mine up for a peanuts starting bid, said 'thanks for you interest' to the derisory offers and just let the auction roll. You might get an offer that you find acceptable before the auction ends or not.

Best to have plenty of pics and videos on the advert if you can. As you know, mine had a slight overheating issue. I didn't see any point in trying to hide that as it would have been a bit unfair to the next owner.

Good luck with the sale. :)

Hi all,

Well, it is with a heavy heart that I am selling my MGF. I will put up a proper for sale thread in a bit, after I have put the kids to bed.

I'm going to put it up on eBay soon, but thought I would give people on here a chance to grab it first. As I said, proper thread to follow, but if you're interested for as close as possible to £400 , please feel free to get in touch.

Lee.
