So this is not criticism, very far from it...... but an honest question:
Don't you think that you've moved a teeny bit away from a 300 quid banger?

My mate Paulio (Paul) does the Scally Rally in a 300k mile ex works Escort van. That just keeps going. Christ knows how. Yes I do (modest cough) I rebuilt the engine for him. 1300 Ford xflow . Very little to do actually: The spannering of my youth.

Last time he did the run he reached the Arctic Circle! I was going to be his co but couldn't get the time off work. I did get the duty free fags however.

The car was a $hitter when we bought it.
The fact we've put far too much time into the paint and prep doesn't mean its any more reliable than it was before we started. My own F is in very good condition and that broke down on my drive last week. We may have gone over the top, but we hugely enjoy making what we consider to be a silk purse from a sow's ear, for us it's an extension of the rally. When we did similar to a Citroen ZX a few years back, the reaction we got in Switzerland , Italy and Croatia from the locals was overwhelming and we loved the attention. I hope the more effort we put in, the more we will raise. We've done it all in my garage so far and the amount of people walking past who've said they will sponsor us, really keeps us going.

At the end of the day, we've gone to far too much effort, and it's very very shiney, but the cars underneath are those that were most likely going to be broken for parts.
This is our 3rd rally, some people go to similar efforts, some do f'kall. Some raise money for charity, some don't.
We are happy with where we sit given the options.
All donations will be gratefully received.

Damn you Tim - Because of you I've decided to change my theme... don't worry it's not even similar, but it gave me an idea.

What's the theme then?
Is it am mgf you already owned, or have you bought it specially.
Must say, there's a hell of lot less car to spray compared to the Volvo 850 estate we used last time!

Hopefully spray the alloys this weekend. Choice of colours are white, red or black. I think we've nearly chosen white, but not 100% yet

I bought it as (a) a back up car for the rally (b) engine donor for my Metro just in case I didn't start the mid-engine Alfa v6 conversion.
Therefore option (a) has won hands down.

I'm enjoying struggling with the MGF as it's like working on 2 bad Metro's at the same time.
