my MGF VVC mkII so far, or, back from the dead! 11 years 1 week ago #116202

as she is now..

Attachment not found

she arrived on a trailer, having sat SORN for two years after refusing to start one day (yup), and following quotes starting at £500 from nameless 'specialists' it was reaching scrap time.
so it was either get it going or break it.
first checks seemed to indicate an alarm fault, but the factory one was accepting the door key code (all fobs were flat), the Clifford stickers on the windows were just stickers (duh), and the cat 1 Cobra was behaving as well. just dash lights on but no start.
weird.
on checking the main battery, it came up as having a dead/short cell, so it was replaced.
having checked all the typical 'why wont it go', another paired ecu set was swapped out.
the engine starts first turn of the key! cue cheers. :woohoo: it was 11pm by this point.
next day the original engine ecu was connected to MPPS (multi protocol programmer) and turned out to be corrupted, so no wonder it wouldnt talk to anything. the second ecu was cloned back onto mine, paired, and job's a good un. the battery failure somehow caused a spike which corrupted the ecu.
that was the start of it.. :pop:

Does the bike fit on there too? :-? :-? Board looks good and aerodynamic, if you lifted the board up at the back it would be like a spoiler. :omg: :omg:

I think it's great when cars with lots of potential life left in them are rescued from breaking even though most of us benefit from 'broken' parts and sadly they may be worth more in bits than whole. I was able to buy my first MG as a 23 year old because it had survived into early old age without having become classic and the MGF is in exactly that position now so let's try to keep them on the road. Well done!
