Ventilation Sytem not working 11 years 1 month ago #110706

Hi Guys,

Got into my car yesterday and realised that the airflow isnt working at all, on any number 1 to 4. when i switch it on the light for the AC will come on but no air, hot or cold, comes through the vents. I haver tried searching to see if this has been talked about before on the forums but had no luck. i was wondering if anyone has any advice to sort the problem or whether im facing a few more cold weeks of winter! One of my main concerns is that my TF does seem to mist up quite easily and if the ventilation system isnt working it could cause me a potential risk.

Any help or advice is as always much appreciated.

The heater/ventilation fan runs via a resistor pack, and it typically blows one or more of the resistors over time ..... to have no airflow on ANY SETTING is unusual ....

Here's a guide link to replacing blown resistors: http://www.apttony.co.uk/Servicing/BrakeSwitch.html

.... but in your case, I suspect you might need this link for replacing the motor and fan : http://www.the-t-bar.com/en/forum/54-how-tos/32304-how-to-remove--replace-the-heater-blower-motor#32315

In either case this link to the circuit diagram should be of assistance : http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/sb19.jpg

Good luck and let us know how you get on. :)

Charles,

Check fuses first then if they are ok I think you will find its the fan resistors going pop! easy enough fix, this is a link to a description and possible fix http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/heater_and_ventilation/index.htm

just need to be a contortionist to get the heather out and then handy with a soldering iron.

Before you do to much, check to see the rotary control knob isn't broken. They will break the at the sleeve allowing you to turn the knob but not the shaft.
To check just pull the knob, towards you to remove it and you'll the sleve I'm talking about on the back of the knob, if it's cracked or has a piece missing it's buggered!
If this is your problem it's an easy fix, just pull off the offending knob and replace it with another!
There are aftermarket knobs that will fit and they're probably better quality than the OEM items.
I reinforced the sleeves on mine by putting several layers of heat shrink tubing over them.
