MG TF Front & Rear Lower Shock Bush. 11 years 3 months ago #100353

Hello all,

We are after the Lower Shock Bushes for the front and rear of the TF.

I can't seem to find any for the fronts though!

I have found a poly-bush kit for the rear.... Will the same kit fit the front too?
I have found a front kit for the F... Will that fit the TF?

If not, what is advisable? We don't want to replace the whole shock, as the shock is good.

As always, advice is greatly appreciated

They're spherical bearings and I don't think they're readily available - I know if you buy AVO shocks, they require the old shocks (or rear arms which contain the same bearing) for the bearing.

TF lower shocker mounts are the same both front and rear.

B&G list a repair kit using polybushes and a sleeve. Is this what you have found?

F shockers are different but maybe the same lower arrangement but TFs take more load.

New bolts are also worthwhile as they can fracture especially after removal and retightening. :broon:

I think that listing is probably a mistake, especially as it's given the same part number as the MGF polybush kit.

In the F, the shocks bolt to the arm and the bolt transfers the load. On the TF shocks, the lower metal bush locates in a recess in the arm so as not to put the primary loading through the bolt (although they can still bend/snap!) so as Tipper says, it's worth replacing them.

Cheapest option is probably to get some second hand shocks - they can be picked up for peanuts from the right breaker!

TF shock lower bushes cannot be replaced, which is why I ended up going for Spax when my front nearside started knocking.
