An engineering genius who revolutionised bicycle design and suspension design.

RIP Dr Moulton.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Moulton this August.

He was a real genius.

His most successful suspension (in terms of numbers produced) must be his simplest design. The rubber cone suspension on the Mini.

But for all of us over here, he invented the Hydragas system which eventually found its way into the MGF.

Keith Adams has a good obituary on AROnline http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/news/dr-alex-moulton-rip-1920-2012/

Another genius and character bites the dust.....I'm pleased to still have his hydragas units on my MG F and will do my best to keep them going!

There is another tribute here: http://www.moultonbicycles.co.uk/

Nice to see the MG F getting a mention.

I hope you kept it? Did you see the prices for the new ones....they start at £950 and go to over £16K! You could build a brand new MG F for less!

When I visited "The Hall" in Bradford on Avon in August, we got to see a small museum of all the work and proto-types related to the hydro-elastic and hydragas systems. The grounds are quite extensive and there is a tarmac path around the perimeter which is used as a test track for the bicycles and a few times we had to step out of the way as an employee came along on a new bike.

What I will remember most was Dr Moulton stepping outside and seeing 14 1100s parked on his driveway, pointing at one and his first words were "the ride height is not correct".
