Need Exhaust Trim Guidance 11 years 9 months ago #59892

This has been in my to-do list for sometime now, and I thought that I'll give it a go.

One of my Exhaust trims (NS)fell off long time ago, and since then my F has been with a single exhaust trim.

I need some advice on what's the best (economical) way to get the car back to 2 exhaust trims.

1) I've attached a couple of snaps of the Trim, and wanted to know if I can get the exact same trim, to replace the missing side. If so, where can I get my hands on one?

2) If not, then I guess I'll have to replace in pair. Again, where can I get a decent pair, preferable oval?

Lastly, I'm not quite good at getting my hands dirty, so, wanted to know if removing & fitting these exhaust trims are easy, and how?

In Ebay, I see quite a few, but they keep referring to 33mm, 56mm, etc and I'm assuming that's the diameter of the exhaust, in my case, I measured the missing side exhaust diameter, and it's app. 31mm.

thanks.

The first picture shows an SE exhaust trim. it actually fits over the standard exhaust finisher, which is welded to the exhaust pipe.
The second picture shows that the standard finisher has come off at the weld, so you would have to find a standard finisher and weld it on, and then find an SE exhaust trim to match the other side.

It will be much cheaper and easier to replace both with universal aftermarket finishers. You will have to cut off the standard finisher on the intact side first.

Or buy a new exhaust. ;)

I am getting a few exhausts in EBAY for £66, wondering if they're alright.

Also, if I get them off ebay, will the nearby garages fit them for a few quid? Or will they ask me to shell out a lot in labour?

Are you getting a whole new exhaust backbox?

If so its not a huge job if you have the tools, the hardest part is getting the car high enough to work under.

Actually that's a blatant lie, I nearly lost a thumb and half an ear trying to get one of the nuts off...

Some are easy to do, some can be a pig, garage shouldn't charge much at all, maybe £50 for labour.
.
You can put the ebay number in the special ebay link jobber in the reply window and we could check that its of a decent quality, understand if you want to keep it secret though.

This particular system has had some bad reviews.

"I bought this exhaust off ebay and saved £50. My advice dont bother. Car louder, less efficient, doesnt hang straight, rusty shoddy finishers and not pleased. You get what you pay for so get a good one. "

He said customer service was goo just not the product. In the end the company gave him a refund.

Invalid or non-existent item ID.Where did you find the reviews?

Also, any that you can recommend from EBAY? Or Elsewhere? I don't want to spend a lot, but need something that looks decent and sounds alright.

Found another one:

If I was in your position I'd get a quote from a specialist exhaust fitting centre, you'll probably find that the cheapest option. :yesnod:

Look in the local newspaper for an independent near you, or even Kwikfit.

Probably wont find a "named" decent backbox cheaper than this at the moment. Sounds nice, and will last forever. Apologies if anyone is either of the 2 bidders.

I've got a quote for the Exhaust and fitting together for £165 (including their 20% off exhausts offer) from the nearby National Tyres.
They're claiming to be ordering the genuine RR292P part, for the MGF and offer a 3 year unlimited mileage guarantee.

Sounds like a deal to me. After being a cyber-part of the Great Whiz Weekend Exhaust Saga, it appears that an F is trickier than a TF!

It took me 2 hours to fit the Mk7 on the TF: all went well and things are fairly accessible!
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..
