I have moved your question to its own thread, Albert.

Can you give us more information?
You want to find the number on your engine? :-?
You want to find a 160 and need to know the engine number? :-?

If you complete Dieter's VIN survey, he will tell you any info he has on your vehicle and will be able to tell you the original engine number fitted to the car..

Dieters' survey link.

You really want to supply your engine and body numbers too. The body number can be found behind the boot carpet on the side were the ECU is.

In the MGF/TF QI Facts thread you will find info on the explanation of the VIN number which includes the generic engine type fitted.

For the MGF/TF QI Facts thread (click here) The VIN explanation is on page 2.

The engine number comprises a series of letters and numbers presenting in code the cubic capacity, engine series and the ancillaries fitted. The engine serial number is a unique number.

Here is a table explaining the engine number
