Just came across a web site that belongs to a company that will repair/reset airbags and as some MGF's are at their 15 year replacement point the link below may be odf use.

http://crash-data.co.uk/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.cart&Itemid=209

They appear to charge a one off fee of £30 and the MGF is in the list of manufacturers

Hopefully we'll never find out. 30 quid seems reasonable for peace of mind.

I'm sure I read somewhere that they should be replaced every 10 years...I really don't know whether it was to do with angles and speed of actual impact etc, but I do know that my airbag on George (aged 13 & 3/4), DIDN'T go off when he went headfirst into the central reservation of the M6, whilst the airbag on Phil's car Dora (age 7), DID go off when he rounded a bend and unexpectedly met a very large 4x4 Mitsubishi on his side of the road. :-?
To those who don't know us, both cars suffered severe front end damage and were fatally wounded...fortunately, both of us were well protected and walked away unharmed :)

Me and me Julie just read those horror stories in shock and awe (even though we knew there was a happy ending). At the end of the day they're just cars. We're glad you're both still here to tell the tales. :hugs:

:omg: I had heard tell of these two vehicles but had not known the story behind them

Dora

George

As a lighter aside, on my first Border Patrol run, my son, Saul, overheard Maggy talking about 'killing George' :omg: I watched rather amused as he slowly stepped back from Maggy with a look of fear in his eyes.

I did tell him that George was actually just a car.............. ...... ....... ...... ..... ...... ...... ... .... eventually

Re: AIR BAG RESET AND REPAIR 11 years 9 months ago #59246

Hi,
has anyone already sent an inquiry to that company about their offer ?
The mentioned p/n YWC 105230 relates to the Airbag ECU, not to any airbag.
See pics at http://www.mgfcar.de/srs_system/index.html

A reset and repair of the ECU may be possible and is on offer by several other companies since years. But I daubt they will be able to renew the 15 years exchange sequence for the airbags themself.

well after the tragic stories on the previous threads I am only glad that you escaped unscathed.

Dieter-I will investigate further and report back

The owners manual states 15 year replacement cycle and so the does the workshop sheets, I know of no further updates on this
