Re: Is this my MEMS3? 12 years 1 month ago #46752

My MY2000 is MEMS 2.

I did`nt know about the wedge shape being MEMS3. You learn something new every day

I hoped to learn that what I have is a thing called a MEMS3: what I've learned instead is that this thing may or may not be a "wedge of cheese" and doesn't particularly identify itself as MEMS flippin' anything and what I need to do next is remove the tea tray from behind the seats in order to establish whether my plugs have leads in the conventional sense or whether there's some kind of black magic under there.
I'm new to these cars: is it really soooooooo complicated? :nonod: :woohoo: :bang: :bang:

It looks like a MY2000 model looking at the size of the airbox so it could me MEMS2

Well I can confirm the former and was hoping, by this photo, to confirm the latter. Not enough evidence for a diagnosis it seems?

Go with what David said regarding the cheese wedge shaped ECU being MEMS 3 a difference I was not aware of. Failing that take the engine cover off and look on top of the engine for the coil packs

A little job for the weekend methinks. Spanner and how many bolts? Camera action.

Easy way to check. Look under the car at the exhaust. Between the cat and the main silencer there will be lambda sensor, with wiring attached if it's a mems3 ecu.

Well, that's a job for tomorrow morning and taping my mobile phone to a mouse's back!!! I'll be back.

Earlier exhaust - up to mems2

Mems3 exhaust. Lambda sensor in position 7

I believe my2000 should be mems3 but I don't doubt that MGR would have used up old stock of ecus before changing.....

Mine is an MY2000 first registered 28 April 2000 and it is MEMS 2. If you ever have a chat with Dieter or get into the MG Quiz you'll find out that it is very dangerous to assume anything logical about MG :bust:

Found this :- from a remap company.

Mems 3 cars.. Some late model (1998 onwards MGFs) will be running Mems 3 with a single 02 sensor. Plug top coils and a slim wedge shape ecu are a clue. Early MGF Trophys also ran one 02 sensor and all Trophys are mems 3

Does that help or make things more complicated? :-?

Why don't you just tell us (me) the VIN ? B) and the engine number ?

post here to me http://www.mgfcar.de/vin/index.htm

Airbox looks like the latest big one (wide shape with pipe)
Cone shape ECU looks like MEMS3

Oh, if you're going to get technical...

And having had a non-technical fumble under Ted's back end I am pleased to confirm the existence of the lambda sensor on the exhaust!!! :woohoo:
