The problem?
Not a problem as such but it could result in you collecting lots of other chrome covered pieces to attach to your F/TF..
Well it was all rayb's fault, he sent me a pair of Rover 75 door handle surrounds and I now think that a bit of chrome looks very very nice on the inside...read on...
Tools needed:
Cross head screwdriver, side cutters and some glue
The Fix:
The interior door handle on an MGF MKII or TF should look something like this...
rayb sent me a pair of Rover 75 door handle chrome surrounds, the back of which looks like this...
First thing to do is to cut off those lugs so it looks like this....
NOTE: the surround is marked TOP on one edge, this will in fact face down when fitting to your F/TF
The plastic piece behind the handle is held in place by one screw and you need to remove it to trim it
After removing the screw the handle back is simply pulled forward, twisting up, then just slips over the handle
Once trimmed it should look something like this...
Doesn't have to be smooth as the Rover 75 surround is more than large enough to cover the edges
Time now to refit the cut plastic handle back and apply glue as shown...
Fit the surround, sit back and admire your handy work
Job done
and a brilliant result for very little effort. Total time for this modification ~ 30 mins + 5 mins to take photos, but that is optional
