. My relationship with 'Jane' satnav is mixed. When i am driving with roof down and the TT is roaring and Captain Beefheart n his. Magic band are blasting oot (oh the joys of male menopause !!)
Then i can't hear her....and with the sun shining i ave difficulty seeing the display. So has anyone ever converted (only on F) their passenger airbag cubby hole to fit a satnav in and thus be shaded? I think someone somewhere fitted a dvd in one. Sadly i am all fingers n thumbs
So what i cant do with duck tape is not attempted! Any of you with brains have any thoughts?
Please dont say turn Beefheart down as i ave worked hard for my menopause!

Thought this was worth its own thread.

My satnav on its CD slot mounting is pretty easy to turn/tilt so that the screen is easily seen.
I tend not to have music on in the car anyway so have less problems hearing the spoken instructions, but wind noise can sometimes make it difficult.

It would certainly be possible to mount the sat/nav in the empty passenger airbag position but would it be easily seen over there?

AdamElphicks' guide shows how much room you would have to work with.

I tend to listen to mine more than look at it. I do have the volume set to 90% though.

I think if angled right it could be seen but might cause the eyes to leave the road a bit ok at 45mph but dicey at 129mph!
Like the thread on converting the airbag - although it involves a little more than duck tape.
I also tend to listen to Jane if possible - maybe I need to listen to Leonard Cohen instead, he's softer than Beefheart. :woohoo:

Driving music??? That's another thread to think about :yesnod:

Opps forgot - great idea about changing the voice! But Jane is very sweet and could I muster enuf strength to be unfaithful ....well maybe.. ;)

Re: Trouble with Jane (satnav) 12 years 2 months ago #43805

Invalid or non-existent item ID.well 3 things with sat nav

if you own a tom tom 720 or above they have a built in fm transmitter so you can tune your radio to the sat nav :broon:
also built in is a mp3 player :yesnod:

so you can listen to your mp3 and use the sat nav at the same time :broon:

unfortunatly tom tom ones dont do this

so might be time for an upgrade for some i have the 720xl and you can bluetooth your phone as well :)

mounting how about modding one of these to sit on top of the center console

cut the top off mod to fit sat nav then fit at least it will be coverd and out of sight
mad about cars and bikes :)
if it aint broke dont fix it :)

Thanks Mark - methinks an upgrade is needed, my Tom tom is so old it still warns me of the dangerous spots where Dick Turpin might lurk!

Like the idea of getting another console and modifying it. :broon:

Hi John from memory your Sat nav is the same as mine - looks like a TV with a tube in it rather than a flat screen ;)

I don't use it so often now, instead I have satnav on my phone and this connects to the car stereo via bluetooth so the satnav instructions come through the car speakers and works well.

There was someone on .org a while back that converted their Rover 200 centre air vents to incorporate a built in sat nav and this provided a bit of shading and looked good - will see if I can find the link and post it up.

Serena can be quite amusing because, on my Tomtom Start 20 you can type in your own individual warnings for things and Serena will do her best to pronounce them...

Hours of fun for the puerile mind! :bust: You can have her saying ANYTHING! Heh heh heh!
