Sorry to rant on, but a lot of people think the F is a Money Grabbing F....[/quote]

Bryan
but a lot of people think the F is a Money Grabbing F....
sorry to be at odds with you but my blue f purchased for 2k sold for £850 due to sill over heating and cutting out
did on average 8 k miles per year in 14 months it had

new front discs £120.00
new front pads £46.99
new under floor pipes £93
new radiator £65
hgf £500 inc head replacement at 62k miles
2 lamba sensors £65 each
rear discs and pads £120
head gasket was replaced by previouse owner at 47k miles £562 bill
new window guide as fell apart
2 rear calipers £150.00
and new hoses ect
for a car thats only done 65k miles when i got rid thats a hell of a repair bill and its still not fixed it had a new ecu recently

our red f got at 14k miles sold at 50k miles
new front calipers at 22k miles
new discs at 23k miles
hgf at 33k miles
new rear discs at 42k miles
new rear calipers at 42k miles
new rad at 42 k miles
new inlet manifold and gasket at 49k miles
new under floor pipes at 36k miles
suspect hgf at 50k miles so sold

as an comparison i had a merc sprinter van for 3 years i purchased it with 156k miles on the clock and sold at 196k miles
all i replaced was 1 set of brake pads and 2 sets of tyres and 2 home servecis and i use to thrash it every where

pug l06 did 65k miles no parts replaced in 6 years

my rover SDi 3.5 i kept for 16 years and i relaced the front struts front discs and pads once and did a head gasket change due to fitting a small block shevy head and inlet manifold with a 4 branch holly carb

i have built a mk2 fiesta with a 1.6cvh escort engine that was fun
mk 3 ford cortina with a essex 3.1v6 and rod box use to leave jags standing on the m5 lol
so im reasonably handy with tools and engines ect

all the veihicles we have are used daily for work and pleasure so need to be reliable and economical to run. from out 9 years of owning MG Fs they do cost a lot more to keep
however if they are just a fun second car then the cost drops off
the other problem with the F and Tf is the lack of acces to the engine thus cost to repair go up

the one thing going for the cars is they are FUN TO DRIVE

the costs speak for them selves so sory bryan i dont want to fall out with you at all but the above is the costs of us owning 2 fs and nearly sending me to the poor house as i lost 1.4k in 14 months on the blue F also i used a hole years holiday to keep it on the road
mad about cars and bikes :)
if it aint broke dont fix it :)

To be fair to MG, we have had a couple of well documented problems with our 85th which have not been either our fault or build quality problems from MG.
Ok, paint problems are something that should not have caused issues, but MG have been very proactive resolving and where necessary respraying some cars that have required it, but paint is a problem with many modern cars because of the water based paints that are now required by European legislation.
Generally though, parts have been available for the major rebuild following the 2 accidents we have had in the last 12 months. I know it took some time to get the 85th back on the road this time but that was as much due to issues with the insurance company and us not wanting to rush as we were enjoying the MG6 so much.....so parts are out there when required, and not just on ebay!!

Very surprised to hear of a mis firing MG6. I've not had one person drive the MG6 that doesn't like the car. I'm so confident in the product that I'm actually encouraging 24 hour test drives. Maybe the car mentioned was a pre production Chinese spec car? I like the MG6 enough that I've gone and bought one and I'd urge anyone on here to have a serious look before buying anything else! As for parts supply? We've had the odd part that has been awkward to get, but all of the MG TF's we've supplied are on the road and even when parts (like John's centre wheel trims) were not available, MG were happy to arrange an alternative solution. MG is STILL MG, will always be MG and this comes from someone who knows :)!

My LE500 is now almost 3 and a half years old and has covered 22k. In general I am pleased with the car and the quality is OK but I wish they had taken more care over the manufacture of some parts, in my case its very minor stuff like the front MG badge starting to delaminate at 10 months old however this was replaced under warranty and I sealed the edges of the replacement with clear laquer and so far all is OK.

Now the wheel centres are starting to do the same although to put it into perspective, they are no worse than the wheel centres on a 4 year old VW Golf I used to have! As the wheel centres and front badge are black/silver and quite rare, I had the foresite to source replacements a while back.

Reverse sensors have played up a bit but I have been lucky compared to some, I have updated my reverse sensor post today.

Otherwise last week the screen washer pump wouldn't work when the car was first used again but removing the pump and turning the blade by hand got it going again.

And last year the metal black painted grilles were rusting badly, possibly not helped by the stone infested roads I used to drive on, I removed these and re-painted them and all is well now.

May be these other people have just been unlucky, but I have to say from my own experiance MG's way of doing things is not up to the standards of other cars makers I have bought new from. If I have ever needed a part for my Renaults, Fords, Vauxhalls then it is there next day at the latest, I have not had to make countless phone calls or wait weeks. Some of the problems have been down to bad dealerships, I went through 3 before I found a good one (Summitt) and I know of several owners who have sold their cars because of the way they were treated by MG. Most of them will not say on open forum but the fact is they were not happy and would not buy MG again. I know one enthusiast who says "apart from having 3 resprays on her (not full) and a few bits replaced she has been fine" Now a non enthusiast would be going nuts abut their car having the paing fall off after a few weeks!

Reverse sensors are a good point to use, I have never had a problem with reverse sensors on any car other than my LE500 and TF85, we should not have to fix them ourselves, they should be replaced and the problems sorted by MG. May be we do it because we are MG enthusists, may be we get fed up trying to get MG to sort it properly, either way we should not have to fix them!
The problem is that not every one who buys these cars are enthusiasts of the MG brand and will not tollerate it or return to the brand.

Regarding paint issues, I have now owned several water based paint cars and have only had problems with my LE500 and TF85. :(

I do not want to come over has anti MG, I am not and have owned 15 of them, but they should look after their customers properly. The problems I had with my LE500 for instance was a constant source of fun for the people I work with and I know for a fact it put everyone I work with off ever buying MG which is a shame.

Totally agree with you John :) I guess if I wasn't an enthusiast I would not be happy!
