Little Mg Temp issues 12 years 2 months ago #42607

afternoon,

I have been using the little F for a couple of weeks as my everday transport! Ive noticed lately that the temp gauge gets to temp, but the starts to fall when im driving around, and it seems the more I push the car (above 4k) the quicker the temp gauge goes back to a qtr??

today it reached temp but the dropped again to a qtr level then rose to two dots under half way.(under normal plodding driving)

I take it this is a themostate issue, are they easy to change???

also it seems to have upped it taste in unleaded its going through loads! could this be related??

Many Thanks Mg Peeps!

it cold be thermostat or even a faulty temp sensor

the thermostat is a bit of a pig to change as its best to remove the inlet manifold to get to it you have to drain the coolant ect
when you re assemble use new o rings for the seals if you dont it could leak

after fitting and re assembly you will neet yo bleed the coolant at all 3 places

as for fuel the ecu think its not warm enough so puts the car on auto choke
mad about cars and bikes :)
if it aint broke dont fix it :)

Cheers Mark, I might change the temp sensor first then, then if that don't work looks like i have the fun task of the stat! :bang:

It could also be an air in the coolant problem. Try bleeding the engine bay bleed. air at the sensor can cause fast temp changes (on the gauge)

Would go with a full bleed before anything, have you noticed any coolant missing from your expansion tank?

Thanks,

I did have some coolant loss a few weeks ago but it seemed to stop once i changed the cap, (tho i have not checked in a week so i will check at lunch time)

Now it seems after driving the car for less than a few mins the rad fan is on.
