Re: MGF goes up in flames 12 years 5 months ago #32208

Early Fs also suffered from a poor plastic weld between the halves of the tank.. A car we know of via WAMGOC had this problem soon after it was bought from Summit Maidenhead. Obviously you get a smell of petrol. When it went back to be fixed under warranty the fitter suggested it would be easier to just givethem a new car, B)
Useful thread, I have already looked at my fuel pipe fasteners and will check at the weekly inspection in future.

There is advice there regarding fitting cable ties to the quick release connectors on the petrol lines

Perhaps something to check this weekend

Here are a couple of photo's to help you identify the connectors

From the boot, remove the inspection cover. On the passenger side you should be able to see the fuel filter and this orange connector.

and to the right slightly lower this green connector

These are the connector indicated in the diagram.

To release the connector you have to push the black collar into the coloured section. To prevent this from happening accidentally it is suggested to put a cable tie on the black section such that it cannot be pushed in.

I think as Dieter mentioned it is probably down to incorrect fitting of a new filter. I can't see those fittings coming loose if they've been locked in properly.

But definitely worth checking, :yesnod: car fires are not a barrel of laughs. :nonod:

When I replaced my fuel filter I just unscrewed the filter.
I am going to go back and check and tie wrap the fittings...
just in case I disturbed them.

Thanks for starting this thread PQD!
