Heatr Blower Malfunction 13 years 3 months ago #20916

The wifey's F has blower issues, seems speeds 1,2 & 3 have ceased to function and apparently #4 works but is noisy at times. No knowing if this is the typical MGR resistor fix or something else as it is normally 1 & 2 that pack up. Input would be gratefully received. :)

Position 4 is the only one that doesn't have a resistor its just straight powered

So I recon its the resistor pack or maybe the feed to it if all have packed up at once

No worries

You know where it is ?

just encase its in the passenger foot well, remove the plastic heater tube an its on the side of the heater quite high up

you can find it by the wires to it, two screws hold the unit in place

Sounds like another contortionists act coming up! Had enough getting the clutch master cylinder in and out a while back. My 6' 16st frame is not as nimble as it once was!

Might be worth dropping the glove box out first then, just to get you about a whole 1mm more room..lol

I had to get my son to get the resistor pack out for me and he still had trouble, so it can't be easy

If it is the resistor pack, which it sounds like it is, replace it with ceramic resistors from Maplin - they are great and much more robust - just make sure you wire them together to stop them flopping in the way of the fan blades!

Does anyone know if the F resistor pack is the same as the MGZS&R/R45/R25 one?

This is a common problem, Roger Parker wrote an article in Enjoying MG on how to replace the resistor pack, i will see if i can find it and post it up. Seem to remember it is a "grovel" job to get it out (as Jon has said)
