intermittent wipe and window operation was created by judiths handyman

A while ago my car started sending down the drivers side window with the intermittent wipe on.
A common enough fault apparently rectified with a capacitor wired in somewhere.
However.
As I was fitting new speakers I thought I would fit ferrite noise suppressors to both the speakers and also to the window motor cables to see if they would help the window issue too.
My theory is that the motor cables act like an antenna, drawing in spurious electrical noise and setting the motor in motion.
It has been quite a while now and as I use the TF as my main car I have had lots of opportunity to test the intermittent wipe.
So far so good.
The pictures show my shot speaker and also the ferrite clips that simply fold over the cable and snap together.
Hope its of some use.

Good to know.
Nice to know you run the car as your main drive. How does it hold up in terms of reliability etc. when in daily use?
I use mine as much as I can and even through my latest overheating episode it didn't let me down!

I was fortunate in that the mileage is low, 12.5 k when I bought it and just over 20k now, so wear and tear is minimal.
But overall it is good in all temps.
I expect issues as the mileage increases, rubber of course just perishes naturally, so it has had new cam shaft and gearbox oil seals already.
It is interesting to speculate as I read all the issues on here, just when and what will go and how tolerant I will be before I swap it for a B or some such.
But for now she seems stable enough and I would miss that peppy engine.
In addition she stays outside under cover, I only have one garage housing a Morris Minor, I have thought about selling both cars and getting one only as a garage princess, but I enjoy driving the TF too much, she doesn't sit still long and soon warms up and dries, maybe that is the key, keep them hot and mobile.

To me it's no contest, offload the Morrie, and put the TF in it's place in the garage.
It's been some years since I've driven or worked on a Morrie and I'll be in no hurry to drive or work on one again!

Taking your last words first I fully agree they are best kept mobile if possible.
Callipers and handbrake cables seize through lack of use if not careful. My handbrake is always off in the garage and the gear lever in neutral. It gives me an idea of the brakes as I lean on it to push it backwards or forwards.
I am surprised gearbox oil seals went, a bit of a pain.
I do like the engine! It's sweet and revs freely.
The 1.8 16v VVTI in my MX5 had as much grunt and power but took longer to spin up.
Beware of a garage Queen! My MX 5 was one and being black it was the hardest car I have owned to keep mint.
Taking it out even for a short spin meant washing it again. It had to go.
My wife would love me to trade mine in for a Morris Minor!! She hates the TF.

I do like the idea of using ferrite toroids, I’d never considered them as an option, I’ve always slugged noisy stuff with cap’s usual 0.1uf as a start.

The intermittent fault with the window dropping with the wipers I believe is a BCU fault. I had this on my MG ZR which also gave a short blast from the horn at the same time! The BCU was changed under warranty just before MG / Rover went into administration..

All interesting stuff thankyou.
N.B. I should qualify the gear box seal bit, it was just the seal around the selector, a minor oil leak.
Bringing me nicely to minors, a totally different car from a different era with a different ride altogether.
But loveable, easy to work on, tax and MOT free and very popular at car shows.
My grandkids are still very young and as I added rear seat belts come out for the odd ride with nanna and grandad in their respective kiddy seats.
The ideal from a practicality point of view is a 4 seater with a rag top, but when did practicality ever enter the world of classic cars?
