Why are these gear change bracket bolts a pretty blue?  Does that indicate a "lock tight" bolt?

Yep.
I think it is medium strength threadlock.

It's a very pretty blue...very photogenic...you could take a close up and frame it on your bedside cabinet.

It might be an indicator of a different thread form. It might be worth looking at Rimmers site to see if they make any comment.

Or possibly larger thread, small flange head(?).

" take a close up and frame it on your bedside cabinet"  I fear it might clash terribly with the green!

M  -  seems standard MM small thread.  No idea why -  its only a basic simple bracket.  I was a bit dubious undoing the bolts   Just in case I was rewarded with a sharp clang from inside the box as they were removed.  So far all is  quiet.  As it happens they did not need removing anyway.  Pull out a locking thingie and the cable can be removed easy (ish).  Now to lubricate and see if it makes any difference.

Blue balls I understand........I'm led to believe it is a condition that occurs due to lack of activity, but blue bolts??????? I've never heard of such nonsense.
It's probably whatever was laying about whenever they were fitted!

Wishing to be wiser on the blue bolts & why blue, I looked at the Rimmers website & found their listing showing them as blue.
Odd & thus no wiser !

I went and had a lie down to get over Cobber's disgraceful implications re. the hand built quality of these things. Then went and had a quick second look and can confirm they are still blue.

Here's a funny thing -  I had put the bracket back, but only hand tight, and the gear change was locked.   Would not move much in any direction -  oh *******!  What have I done?   Tightened the bolts, both normal and blue, and the gear change worked fine.
I have made a small improvement by lubricating the cables (after a fashion) but most by stopping the nylon bellcrank pivot thingie from moving by embedding the top in epoxy resin.
All little improvements.

Sorry it's a bit of a mess.  Stuff goes off a bit quickly in this weather.
