Alternator Adjustor
While I have the engine out i am examining everything to make sure nothing needs replacing, which is obviously easier with the engine out.
I loosened the alternator to remove the drive belt, as i will be replacing the cambelt and the bracket that does the adjusting and the bolts are quite rusty.
What is the view on replacing this with one of the eye bolt versions, i see there is a how-to on this forum. Is it a worthwhile upgrade or only needed if the original is no good?

I put one of those on my F because the original was no good, seems easier to adjust .. but if the originals are kept in good condition ie rust free etc they are ok.

When doing my cam belt Inhad the alternator off to fix the bracket.
i had the bottle screw version available but chose to re fit the OEM item.
the only problem was getting the nuts back on the bracket bolts.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with the OEM item if in good condition.

When I was doing the cambelt on the TF I found that the alternator adjuster was snapped so I as I didn't have a replacement I drilled the original out, re tapped it, and fitted this from a kitchen worktop joint.
Seems to work fine 🙂

Scratch engineering, the art of seeing in one item the use in something different.
I had a pair of left & right handed rose joints, bought for an unrelated project. An old turnbuckle from boating days donated the adjuster & when I had the alternator off I fitted that.
It wasn’t the revelation I had hoped for, the adjuster was a little too voluminous, however it was fitted & hasn’t been revisited since fitting a number of years ago. It might be time to have a look.
