Yes , the battery must be secured.

Some may comment that the battery leads secure it but that is not sufficient.

I had a car back in time and it had the battery support missing...after a while it refused to start...the battery had been moving back and forth...the poles of the battery wore thin has the clamps twisted on them till they worked loose...so the clamp is a important safety feature.

For safety reasons it really should be clamped down. In an accident it’s a fairly heavy missile to be shooting round. However here’s the official standing.
