Replacing the washer pump. 10 years 1 month ago #140241

I've done a bit of research at the local breakers and on the internet.

There are four cars that share the washer pump which is part number DMC100380.
These are the MGF/TF, Rover 600, Rover 100 and post 1996 Classic Mini.

The breaker yard research was trying a plug from a 600 on a Rover 100,
the pump from the 600 on the plugs in the Rover 100,
and finally the plug from the 600 on the pump in my MGF.

Research on the internet showed the Mini has the same part number.

If you want to obtain your own from a breakers yard the Rover 100 washer bottle is located on the top of the offside chassis leg in the engine bay, the Rover 600 washer bottle is hidden away under the nearside headlight behind the bumper, I don't know about the Mini and if you can't find the washer bottle on the MGF why are you reading this?

Rimmers list the part at £47.70 but the cheapest on ebay is £4.99.

Funny thing is if you search for an MG part, especially a MGF part, it is far more expensive than the same part for a Rover.

With parts like this you'll probably find it's very genetic and fits a whole lotta different makes and models.
With stuff like this I take it and drop it on the counter of my local Repco, Busons, T&E, Supercheap or Autobarn store (Halfords or some such for you Poms) and ask for "one of these"
It's important you don't let on to what it's from as the lazy buggers will just look it up and may not have a listing for it (they rarely have listings for MGFs in Oz), then they'll just say "don't have it", not only that the price may differ from make to make too.
Ask 'em to have a look for one the same as your sample, chances are they'll come back with something that fits and is listed under a whole lotta different makes. In fact a good parts interpreter will take one look and say "that's off a ****** " and go get one off the shelf
I did this with the MGF brake light switch, turns out it's the exact same part as a whole lot of General Motors rubbish!
