Has the 52mm throttle body made much of a difference as i only have a standard 1.8 cc and would like a little more get up and go

Only just read this thread - I also 'flowed' a 48 alloy TB last year. You can read all about it here . It certainly hasn't harmed the performance as I confirmed at the Silverstone track day!

The larger throttle body will help but you really want to get more air in in the first place. The most cost effective bang for your money is to fit a K&N 57i cone filter, See this thread on the T-Bar

I'd say that I can detect a difference. I wouldn't say it's gone all v8 on me but I'd say revs pick up more quickly low and mid-range.

Next job will be to take the air intake to the nearside wing, then a TT exhaust and then a remap.

Does the 56mm throttle body fit the F or was this just a ZR throttle on a vvc

You'd have to compare the mounts but quite possibly so. I'm going out now but could measure the spacing of the bolt holes if you like...

I have put a 52 throttle body on today and allso a pipercross air fillter witch I got off eBay for 25 pounds .just had to buy cold air feed from halfords .the results are real good very pleased with mine

Those cold air feeds from Halfords are expensive, I used 100mm (4") semi-flexible aluminium ducting for extractor fans. See this thread on the T-Bar

Something like this from ebay

at £9 for 3m there is enough there to do 2 or 3 MGF's

Regarding the 56mm throttle body I vaguely remember having read that someone fitted one and was not happy with the throttle response and went back to a 52mm one.

Despite being an avid reader of the T-Bar, until I was scanning through the 'how to's' I'd always assumed that the only way to improve a 48mm throttle body was to replace it with a 52mm version. Then I found this thread and its sister (the Mk2) and I removed the wedge from my 48mm throttle body this afternoon and the F seems to be running very well as a consequence. The throttle is 'sharper' and I've not noticed any issues maneuvering at low speed either. I used Evo-stick Plumbers' Mait to fill the holes.

This is the cleaned and filled butterfly:



The whole throttle body had been greasy presumably as result of 15 years of muck coming via the breather.

This is the Evo-stick - about £5 from B&Q. I pressed the fill quite hard with a biro when it had set and nothing moved. I also drop tested the butterfly from a couple of feet and nothing fell out.




This is the butterfly back in the body.




Anyway, I'd missed this modification for the 4 years or so that I'd been on the T-Bar so I'm highlighting it now in case others have also not seen it. If you have a 52mm throttle body you can ignore the thread as the wedge was not fitted to those.

Would a very gentle countersinking both sides with a slightly oversized drill bit prevent solder from falling out either side?
