I've got to agree with Cobber on tape machines in cars! Oh, the happy hours I used to spend trying to untangle the tape spaghetti from the mechs.
A mech-less head unit with a usb and an sd port is the simplest and cheapest solution, imho. Get one with bluetooth and just play music from your phone.

yes i do remember the perils of the chewed up tape. im not overly keen on usb players, i tend to make up 6 or so cd's, each a different genre. Then i make a mental list in my head of which one is in which multichanger slot. Then depending on the weather and my mood i know which cd i want to listen too.

Hmmmmm well let's see ............................. the 623 still has it's original Radio Cassette and the Rover 75 has the Symphony unit fitted which is also a Radio Cassette and have just acquired 741 unit from an MGF so that I can fit it into the 75th once we get that sorted. The 741 it seems does have the CD changer control so will look into finding a suitable CD changer at some point.. At preset it has some updated head unit fitted. Also have the correct (99( vintage Blaupunkt CD/Radion head unit so ahve a choice which to use.
Also have nearly all my cassette tapes from the late 1970's up through the 80's :woohoo: and yes I do play them.
Oh I have fitted a CD drive less head unit into "Elsie" the VVC this is a Sony CDX S-100 with tune tray which takes an iPod inside or in my case a memory stick with some 350 tracks on at present, will get around to loading some more on soon, the music already loaded covers some 70 years of music history with Roy Orbison,Stevie Nicks, Dire Straits, Nina Simone to Duffy so covers most mood and weather needs.

I have these USB micro drives in all different colours for easy idenification, they all have different types of music on them and they all fit in the flip down pen/coin tray of the center console of the F.
They are easier to store and use than bloody tapes, they are more reliable than tape, have a huge amount of storage capacity, they seem relativly indestructable and at @ A$8 each are cheaper than tape too!
