  • Hi talkingcars,
No, there are a few spots, but no more big clots like this one.
Underside if the oil filler cap is clean, with a few beads of what looks like condensation, no milkyness.
Oil on the dipstick is clean, it was only changed a few hundred miles ago, along with the filter.

  • Hi Cobber,
It was floating in the expansion tank, I put the cardboard in and it stuck when I pulled it out. There is no evidence that the HG has ever been changed.
There are no other symptoms that I can see.
Has anyone tried the cheap "Combustion gas in the coolant" tests?

Am I correct in thinking that the head gasket has or is failing.

  • Thank you Sundance, I am enjoying learning with the "How Too's" here.
Driving the car is more interesting than fun at the moment, but still enjoyable.

  • Thank you for the welcome, Keymaster.
I have always mistrusted dealers, so change my car infrequently.
I did ask them for a price to do the cam and alternator belts as they are not covered by their warrantee, but in the end decided to do it myself.
"If you want it done right, do it yourself" could be my motto.
I just wish it was not so cold this week!

  • Thank you for the welcome Bertl,
I am looking forward to the rain stopping so that the roof can go back and I wont need to duck under it to get in & out.
I only bought it on the 1st December, from a dealer "fully serviced".
Looked at the alternator drive belt today and it is cracked beyond belief, so I will not be using it till I get that replaced and also check the cam belt. Neither are covered by the warranty.
I have also ordered the belt adjuster mod as it looks a good idea.

  • Thank you for that, I do understand the problems of the older car, never having bought a new one. My last car was a Renault Grand Scenic diesel, which never gave me any major problems although I became an expert window winder module replacer!
I just felt that a change from a "sensible" car to a sports car was needed, at my age it was really now or never.
So far it has been an enjoyable experience, even in the wet.
