Init Fail 4 years 11 months ago #190397

Received my pscan today but unable to connect to either of my MGFs. One Oct 99 vvc the other Mar2000 steppie. So as I understand they are both mems 1.9.
Connect to car flashing LED and k line check go through the ignition off'on 'off routine and all I get is Init Fail.
I also have a Rover 75 cdti and have no problem with that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

A VVC engine will be MEMS2J upto 2001 and MEMS3 after that.

I'll try again with the vvc.
But it's mainly the steppie I want to connect to.

A steppie is a Step Speed right? (I had to google that).

If it has a step speed transmission then the engine ECU is MEMS3

I just (as in today) collected a lot of data from a Rover 45 with the CVT transmission. I believe that this is the same thing as the Step Speed in an MGF.

Once I have written the code for this I will want you to try it out.

Thanks again.
I'll be more than willing to help if I can.

Tried mems 3 on the steptronic and it connected.

There is a load of conflicting info about MGFs around the crossover from mk1 to mk2.
Both mine only have a single pre cat O2 sensor (a la 1.9), Coil packs (mems 3)
Even the MGF guru Dieter Koennecke has some discrepancies.
https://www.mgfcar.de/library/ENGINE_MANAGEMENT_SYSTEM_MPi_MEMS_1.9.htm
States mems1.9 until VIN 511xxx
And yet
https://www.mgfcar.de/library/ENGINE_MANAGEMENT_SYSTEM_%20MPi_VVC_MEMS_3.htm
States mems1.9 until VIN 522572
Mine are 513646 and 518336

The Step Speed transmission is actually controlled by the MEMS3 ECU, it doesn't have a separate transmission ECU.

The MEMS3 code in pscan already collects error codes for both engine and transmission so you already have that.

The work that I need to do now is live data from the transmission.

Even on pscan.uk
Engine ECUs

MEMS1.9 MGF upto 2001

MEMS2J MGF VVC upto 2001

MEMS3 MGF and MGTF 2001 onwards

And yet my March 2000 is mems3 !!
