I've just bought a Ford XH Falcon Ute (pickup), 4 litre straight 6, 4sp auto.
It needs a little work, but I got it for bugger all, and as it'll be work horse, there's no point in getting a real nice one as I'll only end up killing it with use and abuse!
Pix when I get around to getting it home.

I'd never heard the word ute till I went to Australia in 93 to visit my Uncle Jim.

His weapon of choice for all the dirty jobs(and my run around while I was there) was a big yellow long wheel base Toyota. Not a ute but it was fun to drive.

Uncle Jim just about to drop his sharkcat into the water.

I used to have a Sharkcat......a big yellow bastard with 2 x 175hp V6 Evinrude outboards, very fast, great in heavy seas, but it'd eat petrol like there was no tomorrow! :omg:

So back to the ute.

Well the thing wouldn't start which is why I got it cheap, I immediately suspected it was the "Smartlock" immobiliser working far too well! :-?
So after doing diagnostics I came up with error 844, which is the smartlock........Yes! :yesnod: I love it when my early hunches are correct.
So I then studied the wiring diagram and noticed there were several fused inputs to the "Body Control Module" which controls the smartlock function amongst others, one of which was for the interior light, which wasn't working.......pulled the lnterior light fuse, and found the contacts dirty, replaced it with a new one and............Success! :woohoo:
It started straight away first tun of the key and runs like silk.

I had a real F.I.G.J.A.M. moment (Fuck I'm Good, Just Ask Me)

I've now replaced all the fuses and fusible links as a matter of course, to ensure no further problems.

So it looks I've picked a winner. : :drive:

Winner winner chicken dinner :broon:

I once had a similar thing with a motorbike, non runner, no spark.

Guy I got it off had put new plugs, leads, coils and points on but still no spark.

I got it dead cheap and set about it to find out why no spark.

Turned out that he'd put the points in wrong and a fibre washer was in the wrong place causing the no spark issue!!

Fixed for sweet FA!!

Every thing works Ok, no rattles or squeaks and drives real smooooooooooth!
I will check it over in preparation for the road worthy certificate, then I can register it and happydays! :drive: :woohoo:
I'll take some happy snaps tomorrow and post them for your visual pleasure!

Still no pix, the weather has been absolutly shithouse, and I've been busy, it looks like I've got yet another ute now. I was talking to an old mate who had one the same as the one In just bought and it turns out he still has it. This one has a 5 sp manual, It's got a lot of new parts in it like a clutch and it's runs on LPG.
He offered it to me for even less than the one I just bought, so I now have 2 of them! :slapme:
They must be breeding!
