Cheers for that Bryan, I'm going up to my local MG garage and getting a new bottle cap tomorrow, and the rest of the stuff I'll go through with my dad when he has time off, a lot of it will have to wait until I'm back in work unfortunately :(

One of the Head Gasket Failures that puzzled the MG Owners Club workshop was that the impellor had come off the shaft inside the water pump, therefore the water was not circulating, constantly steaming from the expansion tank and eventually caused the dreaded HGF


You can get an uprated water pump with a brass impellor. The idea being that the standard steel impellor corrodes and comes loose. The company says that the new item gets rid of this problem, but I have never heard of anyone who has fitted one.
